This is an example of the 11-point paragraph that I assigned to my ELA 20 class. This particular one was written by an EAL student who moved to Canada from the Philippines 4 years ago. I gave the EAL students in my class an option to write a more condensed version of the assignment, only having to make one comparison instead of three. This student took that option, but was still able to give me a fantastic comparison of the two poems that rivaled his classmates.
This was also one of the 11-point paragraphs from my ELA 20 class. In terms of her skills in ELA, this student is very advanced. This assignment hit everything I was looking for, and was written nearly without flaw. She managed to get 100% on the assignment, and I was very glad to see that I could show her the similarities between the poems.
This is one of the reflective essays that I had my ELA 20 class complete. It is from an Indigenous student, and he decided to tell me about how his culture affected him. He did really well on this assignment. His reflections and voice were fantastic, but he could use some work with his writing mechanics.
